| Job Title: Project Research Engineer (Mechanical) - SITARE Lab, IIT Bombay Job Category(s) : Technical Job Description : Job Purpose We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the structural and thermal design analysis, and optimization for satellites and space telescopes. The selected candidate will work on a variety of space technology projects ranging from high-end satellites to student CubeSats. They will support the development of the proposed “Daksha” space telescope that is under evaluation with ISRO. They are also expected to interface with various space industries and ISRO centers. This position focuses on payload design challenges including mass constraints, vibration responses, thermal control, and integration. The role requires expertise in system design, finite element analysis (FEA), thermal control strategies, structural optimization, and materials engineering. Other: Desired Profile - Master’s degree Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with at least two years of relevant experience; OR (b) a bachelor’s degree in these fields with at least four years of relevant experience. - One or more years of experience on projects with focus on structural and thermal systems in space / aerospace applications is preferred. - Proven experience with designing, structural & thermal simulations, and manufacturing. - Proficiency with design tools, FEA tools and thermal analysis software (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, ANSYS, NX). - Ability to document findings effectively for technical reviews, presentations, and conference publications. - Strong analytical skills, a collaborative spirit, and a proactive approach to problem-solving in high-stakes environments. General Information - Salary will be as per IIT Bombay PR-O3 norms. An INDICATIVE entry-level number is Rs. 95,000 (including HRA if applicable), but can be higher for more experienced candidates. The final amount will be decided by the committee in accordance with IIT Bombay norms. - The Space Instrumentation and Technology for Astrophysics REsearch (SITARE) is a sister laboratory of the Space Technology and Astrophysics Research (STAR) lab at IIT Bombay.
